ATHAK is an Avant Garde project created in Hong Kong in 2008. It is the journey of the human mind, the struggle and irony of the modern world and the infinite beauty of time. ATHAK lives between Rock, Prog-rock, Jazz and Zheul. Each chapter is it’s own as much as it’s part of the sum.  All ATHAK musik is composed, performed and recorded by Scarset Vincent with some Guest performers including : Tu Xiao Jing and Clement Rossignol on Vocals and  赵韵梦 on flute from the band “GDP音乐工作室” Shanghai, China. Since its beginning, ATHAK has recorded 10 Albums/Pieces.

The name ATHAK comes from Magma’s album “Attahk”. Both Magma and Ruins have played a crucial role in forging the idea behind ATHAK. The other very strong and possibly heavier influence is John Zorn. The ideas from musics like COBRA, of complete freedom in musical language, both rhythmically and melodically, where the only rule is creativity, are the cement that pieces ATHAK’s songs. Most of the work is improvised at recording and then arranged. The structures build organically from those improvisations and with time, full suites of musical pieces are born. Other bands such as Jethro tull, Soft Machine, Mekong Delta, King Crimson, Haino Keiji, Kora Jazz Trio, Jean Michel Pilc, Melt Banana or Medeski Martin and Wood, Zappa, are of great influence as well, might it be not as pronounced, but are living in the foundations of ATHAK’s music.

Another very important influence, however maybe hard to hear from the outside, is extreme metal, with bands such as Deicide, Immortal, Emperor, Cannibal Corpse and Dimmu Borgir. Those bands music is responsible for a lot of the musical language used in ATHAK.
